Thoughts for de los AmigosHere you will fine a collection of thoughts and e-mails send to Claudio regarding our milonga de los Amigos. Published with the original authors' permissions. CathyHola Claudio, I want to thank you for sending the message about floorcraft and etiquette to the community. Peter and I are rookie dancers and recently had the good fortune of visiting Buenos Aires where the codes of tango in the milongas are followed (well at least by most -- no passing, cabaceo, floor cleared when the tanda is finished). Even though we're new to the tango scene we noticed the amount of passing and lack of cabaceo that happens here. We're aware that Vancouver is thousands of miles from BsAs, but the etiquette is extremely useful and a large part of tango. We have experienced the magical feeling of everyone on the floor dancing with each other - it's one of those sublime moments that's quite zen-like. We love the fact that tango is not a race around the floor (unlike ballroom dancing) -- you use the time to enjoy the moment with each other and to fill up the music. However, when there are lots of dancers zigzagging in and out of lanes, it makes it very difficult for both the man and woman to truly enjoy the dance and the time together. Good luck with your efforts! It'll make it more enjoyable for one and all to dance in our milongas. Cathy RamonClaudio, I think we should thank you for organizing the tribute to Claude and asking Linda to play. She was just fantastic. Your music was also great Ramon David EamanClaudio, I've got 3 couples showing up for the lesson next Thursday. Absolute beginners. I hope they get into it. Thanx for all of the fine work and the good mix JodineHi Claude, Though I wasn't able to make it last Thursday night - I want to thank you for taking this opportunity to bring something new and fresh to Tango in Vancouver. This venue is close by my work and I can drive by and make it in the evenings without much fuss on my way home to Coquitlam - which is great! I'd also like to admit that as one of the 'old-timers' in our city (who hasn't been showing up too much over the past couple of years,) that i also miss seeing all the other people with whom i truly identify my tango learning with. I wish that more of us who have been around for several years - who have a fair amount of experience with tango - would show up more regularly - and create some fascinating and challenging tango communication for each other. this was the way we all learned to be better dancers - we were constantly challenging and working with each other - and I really miss that. I miss seeing the ladies do great 'follows' and myself trying to equal what the others had learned - I also really miss seeing the men taking each other aside and working on steps, style and technique with each other. I'm certain some of this happens in my absence on a Tuesday night - I just wish I saw more of it regularly. It always inspired me. Sharing like that is a great way to learn. I hope you don't mind, Cheers - Jodine |
